Live music is part of our worship
every Sunday. We have our Music Director,
Marlene Metz, to thank for this! Marlene does a wonderful job
coordinating and scheduling live music year-round.
The type of music varies
greatly and includes four-part classical choral harmonies, jazzy
pieces, spirituals, Jewish songs in Hebrew, flute and piano
duets, recorder solos, guitar hymn accompaniment, folksongs, some international
hymns and folksongs, piano solos, small vocal ensembles, piano hymn
accompaniment, and more!
From late September
through early June, the Adult Choir sings during nearly every Sunday
service. During certain holiday weekends when many choir members are out
of town, small ensembles and soloists from the congregation provide the
music.
Our Accompanist, Wade Jones, often plays the piano for prelude
and the offertory as well as accompanying the congregation on hymns and the
choir with its piece for the week.
When our accompanist is on vacation, our
music director provides us with guitar accompaniment for our
hymns. She often plays flute or recorder pieces or sings and
accompanies herself with her guitar.
During the summer months, small
ensembles and soloists from the congregation provide the music, often
accompanied by Nathan on the piano.
We have many talented musicians within
our congregation playing all kinds of instruments including brass, woodwinds,
and strings as well as percussion. We also have many talented
vocalists.
Music at NUUC is
inspiring!
