Schedule of Activities

Adult Enhancement Classes:

Sermon Discussion Group:

On selected Sundays,  Rev. Ritchie welcomes any who wish to pursue the topic of that morning's worship service through conversation to join her at 11:45 in the parlor of Nielsen House.

Currently scheduled for discussion:

Jan. 13 "God Wars."   How many books have been published in the last year trying to prove—or deny—the existence of God?  We look at what understanding Unitarian Universalism might offer to an unhealthy religious culture.

Feb. 10 "The Half Life of Sin"

Does what you put out in the universe really come back to you?  How the principle of karma, like Universalism, is more about forgiveness than punishment.

March 9 "The Parables of Jesus: Jesus as Teacher."  As Unitarian Universalists, it is part of our tradition to revere Jesus as a teacher.  Yet Jesus' disciples were constantly confused, and the parables are just plain hard to understand... So....just what kind of teacher was Jesus?

April 6 "Follow Me."  How can we know when to lead, when to follow, and when to disobey?

Friendly Yoga for Everyone!  ALL are welcome!

Monthly Activities:

Brown Bag Books

Brown Bag Books meets the third Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m.  Participants take turns choosing the books to read.  Anyone who loves to read, to think and express an opinion or would like to listen is invited to stop in and eat lunch with us as we share an enjoyable discussion.

Covenant Groups

Groups of up to ten people meet a minimum of once a month at members' homes or at the church. All groups are led by trained facilitators under the ultimate direction of the minister and use a regular format.  A typical session includes opening words, a personal check-in, topic exploration and discussion, personal reactions, and closing words.  Covenant Groups will always be open to new members, and are organized on the basis of time availability only.  Groups will dissolve and re-form after nine months' time.

Complete a registration form available at the church and return it by October 16, 2006 for the initial formation of groups.  Groups will be assigned and begin meeting in November.  New members are welcome at any point in the year.

Spirituality Group

Exploration of the spiritual aspects of our lives has been the focus of NUUC's ongoing spirituality group.  During the 90 minute meetings, we open with a chalice lighting and reading, then discuss such topics as whether or not it is possible to forgive ourselves and others; where we find meaning as spiritual beings; or what led each of us to choose our spiritual paths.  The meeting is concluded with a time to check in with each other.  The group has been meeting on the first and third Thursday evening of the month for over two years, with no plans to disband.  New members would be most welcome.
