NUUC Youth Programs Coordinator Job Description

6 hrs. per week, 9 month position. $13/hr. (September-December 2007 with renewal based on program review ).

Requirements:

An ability to meet youth where they are and engage in their interests while still maintaining adult responsibility and appropriate boundaries;

Good group and leadership skills;

Experience and/or education in education, psychology, social work, religion, or related areas;

A deep appreciation of Unitarian Universalist identity.


Responsibilities:

Plan and lead Sunday morning religious education youth program (for ages 12+). Program to rotate between one to two Sundays a month of regular religious education class, one Sunday a month fun group-building activities, and occasional Sundays spent helping youth plan and lead Children’s Chapel.

Schedule, promote and attend special immersion and group building experiences for youth outside of Sunday morning. These to be some combination of UU related (i.e., district conferences), more generally edifying (i.e., group social action project), or just plain fun (attend a ‘zine conference together).

Develop and extend relationships with and within youth group; offer consistent non-parental youth advising.

Provide advocacy for teen issues within the congregation; work for increased acceptance and visibility of youth within the life congregation.

         Report regularly to Minister/DRE, who serves as supervisor.

         Responsibilities shared with the Minster/DRE:

         Choose materials for religious education component
         
Coordinate every other year Coming of Age Program with parental help
         
Recruit and supervise adult advisors.
         
Facilitate youth involvement in Intergenerational Services for congregation.
