MCj01997370000[1]From the President

Dear Members and Friends,

Thank you to all of our members who participated in our annual meeting on March 16th.  Your commitment to both our community and the democratic process reflects well our efforts to maintain our movement’s traditions.

Your new Board of Trustee members are Nancy Remer, Jan Bourke and Koralleen Stavish and the new Nominating Committee members are Steve Mallett and Barb Lubberger.

In addition, on behalf of the Board and the congregation, I would like to express our deep gratitude to Yvonne Clippinger, Ron Mattox and Barb Lubberger for their service on the Board of Trustees.  Each of you has added to the life of our congregation, and we appreciate your willingness to each remain in leadership roles after your Board service.

In fellowship,

David J. Petras

The Board of Trustees meeting scheduled for March 15 was cancelled due to consequences of the recent snowstorm.  Because the financial reports for the month of February have not yet been presented and ratified by the Board of Trustees, both the February and March Treasurer’s Reports will appear in the May 2008 issue of Northern Light.

Any questions may be directed to the NUUC Treasurer, Nancy Remer at NancyR43035@yahoo.com .

GETTING TO KNOW YOUR NEW 2008 NUUC BOARD MEMBERS

The NUUC Board of Trustees is made up of nine members who serve rotating three-year terms.  During the March 16 Annual Meeting, the members of NUUC voted in three new Trustees to serve upon the Board.  These newest members replace departing Board members Yvonne Clippinger, Ron Mattox and Barb Lubberger and will serve until March 2011.

Jan Bourke

Jan has attended services at NUUC regularly for 7-8 years and has been a member for two and a half years. She has served on the Membership Committee for four years, greeting people as they enter our church, and has served as the librarian of our small but growing church library for two years. She has participated in the Empty Bowls fund raising event for the past two years and looks forward to doing so in the future.

Jan stated she “takes pride in our church and what we stand for and am interested in service to the congregation.”

Nancy Remer

Nancy J. Remer, age 67, has attended NUUC since 2001.  Nancy has one son and three stepchildren.  The baby grand piano which graces the sanctuary was dedicated to the memory of her late husband Jim to honor his great love of music.

Nancy graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration from Franklin University.  She retired as Director, Human Resources, after 27 years of service with Worthington Foods.  Nancy has served as Treasurer for NUUC in a volunteer capacity since January, 2005.

She is beginning her second term as a Board Member for WillowWick IV Homeowner's Association and has recently completed a comprehensive training course which allows her to serve as a Volunteer AARP Tax Aide to assist elders with their tax-filing needs and questions.

Koralleen Stavish

Before moving to Columbus last year, Koralleen had lived in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC, her whole life.  She came here with her husband and younger daughter; her son is finishing college in Baltimore and her older daughter graduated last year and is working in Virginia.  Koralleen has worked with computers for the past twenty years, most recently as a systems analyst at the University of Maryland.  Her prior roles on boards and committees have been to provide technical advice, and she is a competent researcher.

Koralleen says she is as new to Unitarian Universalism as she is to Ohio.  She was raised Lutheran and brought her older children through confirmation as Lutherans, but she had felt increasingly uncomfortable in that environment.  She stopped attending and started looking for a more suitable community.  After visiting NUUC early last year her family recognized a good fit right away.  They appreciate being part of the congregation, and Koralleen is eager to help in any capacity.  In addition to her new position on the Board, she is currently serving as a teacher’s assistant in the “Chalice Children” RE class (ages 3-5).
