.BLOOD DRIVE SURVEY

The Social Action Committee is in the preliminary process of organizing a Blood Drive through the American Red Cross.  The first thing we need to do is survey the MCj04080060000[1]congregation to see how many people are interested in participating.  In order to hold the Blood Drive we need 20 people (minimum) to sign up.  We will have more information on dates and times in April, and Co-Chair Yvonne Clippinger will make a special announcement when those details are finalized.  But, first things first.  We will do a survey to see who is interested in giving.  A sign up sheet will be placed in Fellowship hall.  Remember, the sign up sheet is the survey to see who would like to participate.

A REMINDER FROM THE MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE:

As a courtesy to visitors (and those of us with faulty memories…), please remember to wear your name tag during Sunday services and other large gatherings.  If you need a new (or replacement) nametag, please note so on the “Nametag” sign-up sheet located on the white “Greeter’s Table” located against the wall in the sanctuary overflow area.

GETTING GREENER

A  monthly column offered by Rebecca Morse to help us reduce our footprint on this Earth!

Sigh.  It always happens this way.  I start the new year all gung ho, ready to go, and two or three months later my enthusiasm starts to wane.  “What?  I have to do more?  But, I already did that.  Please ma, can I stop?”  With all worthwhile endeavors, It's important to do things to renew ourselves – to recharge our energy and excitement for a task.

It's also important to ask for help from those around us to help keep us on track.  My thanks to Jan Bourke for sending some great suggestions this month:

The Wooster Campus of OSU is holding a Scarlet, Gray and Green Fair on April 22nd  from 1 pm to 7 pm . Vendors, exhibitors and demonstrations will be on the lawn for this eco-fair.

Locally, Green Columbus is celebrating Earth Day by sending volunteers to work-sites around Central Ohio on April 26th.  Go to http://www.nowgetbusy.org/volunteer/ to volunteer!

While I can't make it to Wooster, I'm going to volunteer on the 26th.  If you'd like to join me, please call me at 614-543-1404, or send me an email at sillygirlq@gmail.com Maybe I'll learn a thing or two, and hopefully it will help renew my passion for self improvement and get my feet firmly back on the path to “becoming greener.”

SOCIAL ACTION “IN ACTION”

Got Coins??  Want to get rid of that loose change and have your money go to a good cause?  Your Social Action Committee will continue collecting your loose chanMCj04109470000[1]ge during service on April 13 and on the second Sunday of each month throughout the year.  Monies collected will be distributed to Social Action causes at some point during 2008.  This is a new idea to the congregation; the committee will report to the congregation on the progress and outcome of the project.

If you have questions about this project or other social action matters, please contact Yvonne Clippinger yclippin@columbus.rr.com or Launia White launia@columbus.rr.com , your Social Action co-chairs

Days of Interfaith Youth Service

The NUUC youth will be participating in a “Days of Interfaith Youth Service” project to beautify Mingo Park in Delaware on Sunday, April 13.  This event is co-sponsored by the Youth Group of NUUC and the Ecumenical Youth Group of Delaware.   Participants will meet in front of the Delaware Co. District Library at 84 E. Winter Street at 1:30pm and walk to the bike trail, where they will pour concrete and install new trash bins.  They’ll also pick up trash along the bike trail from William Street to the south entrance of Mingo Park, then gather in the shelter next to the skate park for refreshments and discussion until 4:30pm.  There are tentative plans for the NUUC Youth to have lunch right after church on Sunday the 13th (somewhere nearby to Lewis Center) and then carpool to Delaware, so not all the adults would have to make two trips to Delaware (since the youth will need to be picked up afterwards).  NUUC Youth are encouraged to invite other youth groups and unaffiliated teens to join them!  For questions and to sign up, please contact Lynn Foreman at 740-513-4876 or sbgmacb@hotmail.com
