As we move, bleary eyed and exhausted  into year three of this Pandemic, it’s clear that our world has most certainly changed. Every one of us has had to re-evaluate, re-adjust and re-imagine who and what we are and where we fit into this new world.This is life in a pandemic, but it is also…life. life happens, it comes at us fast, it pivots and changes on a dime and rarely, if ever, asks our opinions or preferences. How do we navigate this ever changing life without losing sight of who we are?

Lydia Maria Child (Feb 11 1802 – Oct. 20 1880) was an American novelist, journalist, publisher, children’s rights advocate, women’s rights advocate, abolitionist as well as a devoted wife, homemaker and family caregiver. An examination of her life and work reveal a strong, brilliant woman who, regardless of her life’s circumstances, never lost sight of her own truth and  consequently, quietly changed the world. 

Today’s preacher is Jacquie Zarley, a 2020 graduate of The Methodist Theological School in Ohio. She is an aspirant working toward ordination as a Unitarian Universalist minister. She is the newly appointed moderator of the Social Justice Committee for the Interfaith Association of Central Ohio (IACO) as well as a member of the Ohio Poor People’s Campaign Beloved Community Care Team. She lives with her partner, Karlan near Akron, Ohio, and is a member of North Unitarian Universalist Congregation.
