Did you know that people are fighting over rainbows? Insulted that the rainbow has become such a widespread symbol of gay pride, some religious conservatives are trying to reclaim the rainbow as an exclusive expression of God’s covenant with Noah. What if its both/and? The fun-filled use of the rainbow in pride circles reminds us how radical play can be, freeing us from constraining and oppressing norms. And once we connect to our agency in this way, we can commit to become rainbow people: people who like Noah, promise to constitute a new world. Today we also honor some special rainbow people: our high school graduates and religious education volunteers. (Our theme this month is “play”). Rev. Susan Ritchie, preaching.
