If you’ve ever felt inadequate, or your sense of belonging has ever been shaken by insecurity, you know how difficult it can be to change your perspective and get out of that rut. The Eastern tradition, Mahayana Buddhism, offers liberating and universalist insights to assist in digging out of that place of shame and comparison with others.
Our guest preacher this morning is Melinda (“Mel”) McGucken. Melinda is a fourth year seminarian at Methodist Theological School in Ohio, formerly from Meadville Lombard Theological School, and is the Youth Ministry Coordinator for her home congregation, West Shore Unitarian Universalist in Rocky River, Ohio. It’s quite a commute for Mel, who will be retaining her position and commuting weekly to serve the youth of West Shore. This week, she will submit the materials to the UUA to officially become a Candidate for the Unitarian Universalist ministry. Mel is passionate about youth and family ministry. Other causes include animals, the natural world, environmental justice, and LGBTQIA+ issues. She recently moved to live on campus at MTSO with her cat, Mojo. When not studying or supporting the youth, Mel loves to meditate, walk in nature, and do yoga. She recently took up crochet, so if you have any tips for beginners, she’s open to suggestions.

The Barn at Stratford is operated by the Delaware County Historical Society. It is located just nine minutes from our church building, just South of Delaware in the community of Stratford. It is immediately north from the junction of routes 315 and 23. The address of the barn is 2690 Stratford Road, Delaware, OH 43015.
While we will miss our beautiful building, the Barn provides a comfortable, historic temporary space that supports all of our regular Sunday morning activities. Please join us! Worship begins at 10:30 AM.
